NASOLABIAL FOLDS
Nasolabial folds, commonly referred to as 'smile lines' or 'nose to mouth lines', extend from the nasal corners to the mouth's outer edges. These creases often develop with age and become more pronounced when smiling, growing increasingly noticeable over time. While our facial lines can reflect our unique personality traits, when these particular lines significantly impact a youthful appearance, many individuals seek aesthetic treatments.
Two primary factors contribute to the formation of nose to mouth lines: structural changes in the skin and repetitive facial movements.
As we age, skin weakens due to the gradual loss of collagen and elastin. This decline affects not only skin hydration but also its natural elasticity. Premature wrinkle formation may be attributed to lifestyle factors such as smoking, excessive sun exposure, and alcohol consumption, which accelerate the depletion of collagen and elastin.
Daily facial movements associated with expressions, emotions, communication, eating, and drinking keep our facial muscles constantly active. These repeated muscle contractions cause the skin to fold and crease, eventually leading to the formation of permanent grooves that become more fixed with age.
Nasolabial folds can be easily treated with dermal filler and require very minimal down-time.
